Our new Capri Mk1 tooling is an exciting addition to the range. It’s a definite cult car, one of the best looking cars of its era, and fittingly our first model is an all-original example of the ultimate Mk1 Capri. Conceived as a basis for a BMW-beating European Touring Car Championship racing car, the RS3100 was the Mk1 Capri’s last hurrah. Around 250 were actually produced, although ETC rules stipulated a minimum of 1,000.

The racers’ 3.4-litre Cosworth designed, twin overhead cam engine used the original Essex block but produced up to 455bhp and, like the rest of the car, pushed the rules to the limit. Ford duly won the 1974 ETC manufacturers’ crown. The road going RS3100 featured a 3,091cc version of the OHV Essex engine, front and rear spoilers, vented front disc brakes, sleeve nut 4-spoke alloys and attractive gold graphics. All RS3100s were built at Halewood in November 1973.

The car modelled is owned by Norfolk-based enthusiast Paul Johnson who assisted with its inspection at supplying dealers Lynford Motor Company while working there as mechanic in June 1974. He was able to buy the car for £600 when it came back as a part-exchange in 1982 and has owned it ever since. He took it off the road for a full bare-shell restoration in 1986, finished it in 1991, and has enjoyed the car regularly ever since.
