1:76 SCALE MERCEDES BENZ CITARO METROBUS-UKBUS 5023 VEHICLE REG BU53 AWX, FLEETNUMBER 502 ON SERVICE X26 HEATHROW AIRPORT. MODELS ARE NEW BOXED IN MINT CONDITION. In October 2004, London Buses awarded Metrobus the contract to operate route X26 with effect from the following April. A limited stopping service between Croydon and Heathrow Airport, this replaced most of route 726, one of the last former Green Line services to operate across South London. A batch of five new Scania OmniCities was purchased to operate the hourly service (CMNL UK7005). In 2008, Mayor Boris Johnson’s pledge to improve orbital services resulted in the decision to increase the service to every 30 minutes during the daytime, taking effect from 22nd November of that year. Whilst the requirement for additional vehicles would be met by five refurbished Scania OmniCities cascaded from Metrobus’ Fastway operations in Crawley, these were not available in the timescale required to commence the enhanced service. Five Mercedes-Benz Citaros dating from 2003, previously operated by Quality Line, were hired in the short term to allow the service increase to go ahead. Allocated Metrobus fleet numbers 501-505 and based at the company’s Croydon depot, the Citaros are dual door, 12 metre long and have 38 seats. UK5023 shows the vehicle, 502 (BU53 AWX). The Mercedes-Benz Citaro UK5023 is a one-piece casting whose clean lines accentuate the square-mounted, double-glazed windows and the livery application on which all logos and lettering are clearly legible. Another main feature on the UK5023 model is its extensive portrayal of handrails. The headlight / indicator units at the front and indicator / tail light units at the rear are made of individual components to look more realistic.
The brand new dual-door Mercedes-Benz Citaro bus models will be limited to 1000 pieces worldwide
